From the Director

Spearhead Research continues to survive and thrive. We should soon have another interesting project- a periodic analysis and update of the evolving political, economic and investment environment in Pakistan. We are putting a team together for this.

Our first project has completed its first quarter and the review has been excellent.
We posted a series of Spearhead Research Reports. We received excellent comments and feedback.

More researchers and analyzers have joined us over the last two months. We welcome them and hope that we will continue to attract talented people. One of our intentions is to encourage research and analysis.

Our website www.spearheadresearch.org and Forum www.spearheadresearch.org/phpBB2/index.php have done extremely well in the month of April 2008 with total hits exceeding 70,000. This is mainly due to high quality content posted on the forums and website, constant Search Engine Optimization and linking Spearhead Research to other Websites and forums. We have posted 220 Articles in the Research section and 134 in the Opinion section, and together with the downloadable articles, a total of 410 are available on the Spearhead Research Forum.

We plan to use a Moderator to put some spark in our discussion forums. You may also soon see selected research reports in the print media.

Editor's Note

The Director participated in a four country conference on Afghanistan at the All Souls College Oxford, UK. This brought together experts from the UK, US, Afghanistan and Pakistan to brainstorm the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s FATA.

The Director also participated in a conference at the Defense Academy of the UK in London. The focus was on Pakistan and its transition to democracy. Former foreign minister Inam Ul Haq, Ambassador Zamir Akram and Senator Mushahid Hussain were the other speakers for Pakistan.
The Director was a delegate at the IISS- Citi India Global Forum in Delhi, India in April. He presented a paper on Transnational Terrorism.

The Director will be attending a conference on Preventive War in Gotenba, Japan during May. This has been organized by the Hoover Institute.

The Director will also participate in The Shangri-LA dialogue on 1st June in Singapore and later in the month in conferences at the Naval Postgraduate College in Monterey California.

Understandably the focus has been on the post election political environment in Pakistan.
We have also posted reports on the looming economic crisis due to external shocks and international price hikes.

Opinion pieces and research reports have also covered the FATA, Swat, Baluchistan and Afghanistan situations.

Our database of material continues to grow. This can be accessed from www.spearheadresearch.org or http://www.spearheadresearch.org/phpBB2/index.php

Panel of experts

Our researchers list continues to grow. This gives us a panel of experts, advisers and researchers on whom we can depend to  produce objective and in depth reports.

We hope to reach out into the corporate world for interaction and support.

Future Directions

We will continue to monitor and study Pakistan’s evolving political situation and economic environment.

We may conduct an opinion poll to determine the views on the changes that have taken place.
Afghanistan and the new policies for Baluchistan and FATA will be analyzed as part of our ongoing activity. In this context we will also focus on the regional situation and foreign policy especially the US- Pakistan relationship.

We continue to look for more funded projects and collaborative research arrangements. We also plan to organize periodic discussions on selected topics.
